Last Sunday night Mack couldn’t fall asleep. An hour after we tucked him into bed, he tiptoed downstairs and crawled onto the sofa with Chris and me. He is normally so busy and active and rambunctious, so to have him snuggle quietly with us for an hour felt like such a treat. It was 10 pm before he finally dozed off.
The next morning, I didn’t even bother waking him up for school. If he’s tired, he runs out of steam! So, I let him sleep in and skip school for the day. Sometimes I have to remind myself that he is only 4 – the daily grind can be hard for such a little guy. He deserved a fun day off!
It was my nephew’s 5th birthday, so my sister and I agreed to treat the kids to a fun morning at Sky High Sports in Niles – just a 20 minute drive from our home in the city. As soon as we walked in Mack and his cousin Trey were in little boy heaven. A huge warehouse full of trampolines – what’s not to love?! The boys took off!
Mack ran, jumped, flipped and somersaulted for an hour straight. His face was beet red and sweat beaded on his forehead. And he couldn’t have been happier!
Even little Vivian got in on the fun. She’s such a little girl, but she loves trying to keep up with her big brother.
Mack was especially thrilled with the foam pit. He rode the rope swing in several times…
…while Trey took off running into it!
I’m so glad Mack played hooky for a day. He’s only little for a little while, and someday every day at school will be important. But, for now, he needs to be a kid.
Having fun with his mom.
On a trampoline.

It’s official: you’re the coolest mom!
This is adorable. Thanks for the reminder to slow down every once in a while. Our kids are only little for such a short time! I love reading your blog.
