We returned late last night from a trip out east visiting my husband’s family. After we put the kids to bed, Chris and I both wanted a little late night snack. Unfortunately, because we had been out-of-town for the better part of a week we didn’t have much in the kitchen. Time to improvise!
Chris had gone to the store to get some milk, so I decided to start with that. Last week I found organic strawberries for $0.98/pound, so I bought six pounds and froze them all. I opened the fridge and saw some Santa Cruz Organic Chocolate Syrup. I love this syrup because it tastes great, and I can easily pronounce all six ingredients on the side of the bottle – the Hershey stuff boasts High Fructose Corn Syrup (a big no-no in our house) as its number one ingredient, followed by 11 others that are a bit suspicious. So, I combined the milk, frozen strawberries and chocolate sauce into a wonderfully satisfying, delicious and healthy treat. Tastes like a milk shake, but its healthy enough to have every night!
Healthy Strawberry Dessert Shake
2 cups milk
2 handfuls frozen strawberries
2 good squirts Santa Cruz Organic Chocolate Syrup
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and the consistency of a milk shake is reached. Pour into two glasses and enjoy!

This is so easy! I love Santa Cruz Organic products.
I used to use that chocolate syrup until I learned how easy it is to make your own.
Chocolate Syrup
Ingredients:
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
A tiny bit of salt (yes a tiny bit is a measurement)
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Stir together. Boil 2-5 minutes, stirring rapidly, until sauce begins to thicken. (It will thicken more when it cools.)
Love this! Thanks for sharing!
Yummy treat! Where do you purchase that syrup???
I get it at Whole Foods. The company’s website has a store locator you can use to find it in your area.
