Earlier this month, two little parties were thrown in honor of the son I had a week ago (he’s finally here and he’s too lovely for words!). My friends Laura and Michele hosted a “stock the freezer” shower and asked our friends to bring frozen dinners so I don’t have to worry about putting together dinner these next couple weeks. What a relief!! And my sisters and mom organized a knitting shower for the women of my family to gather and create a special blanket for the newest member of our family. To show my appreciation for the special attention, I put together boxes of homemade beauty products for the fabulous hostesses.
A few of these recipes call for naturally scented essential oils. I always stay away from artificial fragrances – scented household products literally make my family and me nauseous! But, all-natural products do not offend my senses. If you don’t like any scent, then feel free to leave these ingredients out of the recipe.
3 parts castor oil
1 part extra virgin olive oil
1 part jojoba oil
Combine all three ingredients in a desired container. I like amber glass bottles with an eye dropper because they are functional and attractive. Here is the link with instructions on how to use this very special product!
Olive Oil & Honey Lip Balm
3 parts petroleum jelly
1 part olive oil
1 part honey
Melt petroleum jelly in the microwave until it is easy to stir. Add in olive oil and honey and stir very well. Pour into desired container and allow to cool completely before putting the top on.
Lavender Bath Soak
1 part epsom salt
1 part baking soda
lavender essential oil
Combine salt and soda. Add in a few drops of lavender oil – be careful not to overdo it! Sprinkle into a tub of warm water and relax!
Nail & Cuticle Oil
3 parts jojoba oil
1 part almond oil
few drops of grapefruit essential oil
Combine all three ingredients in a desired container. I like amber glass bottles with an eye dropper because they are functional and attractive. To use, just drop a teeny-tiny drop onto the base of each nail and massage gently. I like using this right before bed.

How you find the time to do all this with two babies, I will never know! I hope Im as good as you are after my little bean pops out!
The trick is to keep the little one involved. She was in charge of stirring the epsom salt and baking soda for the bath soak. She loves having tasks and being included in the fun things I like to do. You'll be a great mom, Ashley!
Love, love, love your blog! Such great ideas for me to copy and I am sure I will be referring to your post about diapers!
Maureen, congrats on your beautiful baby boy…enjoy this time…..thanks for your posts!
I am enamored by this blog. : ) It’s splendid. I am eager to try out your Facial In A Bottle, but the link didn’t take me anywhere for the instructions. Could you post them?
You are truly have a blessing of grace in what you are doing. I am absolutely inspired and very impressed by what you have already done. I am excited to see what new ideas you will have in the future. God Bless You!
Welcome to Homemade Mothering, Steph!
Thanks for letting me know about the broken link. I have fixed it, but here it is again: https://homemademothering.com/2010/02/a-facial-every-day.html
I just became a huge fan of yours!! I love all the natural recipes for the body!! One suggestion please inform your readers that there is a difference in essential oils! Some essential oil companies use synthetics and not pure oil! I use Young Living oils because the company uses pure essential oils, they are 100% therapeutic grade oils!! So please check it out and please contact me if you need more information!
Thanks,
Jennifer Creech
