Most mornings the kids and I start the day with a blueberry-spinach smoothie. We all love it and it is super healthy, but sometimes I feel like changing the routine a bit. When we’re not in the mood for homemade pancakes or steel cut oatmeal, I will try a new smoothie recipe. Yesterday I decided to treat the kids to a breakfast shake that tasted a lot like a chocolate milk shake. Because there is no refined sugar, but plenty of bananas and spinach, I didn’t feel guilty for starting the day with something a little sweet. No massive sugar rush involved!
We all loved it – its a new addition to our breakfast rotation!
Chocolate Banana Spinach Smoothie
2 cups almond milk
2 bananas
2 good scoops peanut butter (I always use homemade peanut butter)
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
big handful baby spinach leaves
2 tablespoons honey
2-3 teaspoons ground flaxseed
ice
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until ice is crushed.
