Do Good Wednesday: Socks for the Homeless

This is the first in a new series called “Do Good Wednesday” where I’ll call attention to a cause we can all easily contribute towards. Doing good should happen all the time and it shouldn’t be hard. Do Good Wednesday will make it easy for you and your family to make the world a better place…one Wednesday at a time!

When my friend Meghan Freeback founded Simply the Basics back in 2015, I thought it was a genius idea: she and her team provide basic hygiene essentials help homeless and low-income people. Things many of us take for granted, like clean socks, deodorant, feminine hygiene products and toothpaste. Simple things that promote dignity and self-worth.

Simply the Basics follows the belief that a person unable to meet their very basic needs (food, shelter, clothing, education, and hygiene) will be incapable of reaching greater goals like job security, sobriety, mental health, and self-actualization.

The most basic human need is to feel safe and secure, which is why I love the work Simply the Basics does every single day.

So, here is where you come in:

Donate socks to Simply the Basics so homeless people can have warm, dry feet. That’s it. Here’s a link to a six pack on sale for $14.99:

Send the socks to Simply the Basics and they’ll make sure they go to the right feet:

  1. Thank you for sharing our story and a creative – and simple – way to give back to the community! We all understand how important basic needs are for everyday living, be them diapers or toothpaste or new socks. We are very grateful and motivated by the support of community members such as Maureen and the Homemade Mothering community!
