While pushing our kids on the swings recently, my neighborhood friends and I were talking about Costco. They couldn’t believe I don’t have a membership to the big warehouse retailer; I couldn’t understand why their small families need to buy anything in bulk. I asked them what they purchase from Costco, and everything they buy I never use. Most of what they buy qualifies as disposable convenience items like paper towels (I quit those years ago in place of good old-fashioned cloth towels), disposable diapers (in my opinion, if diapers aren’t cloth they are garbage) and resealable plastic snack and sandwich bags.
I really hate plastic, so haven’t found a need for resealable bags for many, many years. If the kids want to bring along a snack for a stroll, I toss finger foods into a Munchkin Snack Catcher. I always pack Chris’ lunches in handy glass containers. And, if we’re having a picnic in the park I wrap sandwiches in cloth napkins.
But, when two reusable, resealable snack bag companies sent me samples to review, I was intrigued. Snack Happened and SnackTAXI are two companies making earth-friendly reusable snack bags here in the USA. Both products are machine washable – I toss them into any load I’m running on any given day and they always come out clean and ready for re-use. Why waste money on plastic bags that clog our precious earth when *adorable* reusable options exist??
Plus, my kids love small containers that are all their own, and when I gave them their own little bags they were thrilled!
These little bags are just too cute!! The kids love ’em! Itzy Ritzy bags use a water-resistant food-safe lining that is free of lead, phthalates, PVC and BPA. The zipper-top closure a keeps crumbs, drips and contents securely inside the bag, and it also helps the bag double as a carryall for crayons, small toys, wipes, etc. Sometimes with kids, its handy to have an extra little bag!
Honestly, have you ever seen a little bag as adorable as SnackTAXI?! The exterior of a SnackTAXI is comprised of 100% cotton, and the interior is lined with polyurethane coated nylon that is lead, phthalate and BPA free. Perfect for carrying a sandwich to school or a bunch of grapes to work, SnackTAXIs keep food secure and safe. The Velcro closure is easy for little hands to open and close, but secure enough to prevent messes. Perfect!

Those snack bags are adorable…My favourite snack to take on the go is either an apple and a piece of cheese, or a homemade muffin!
These are darling! Our favorite snacks on the go are blueberries and Trader Joes animal crackers.
I always have dried fruit or pretzels
Apples, for sure. :~) The crunchy Pink Ladies are my favorite!
I always have an emergency stash of fruit leather or cocoa roasted almonds (yum!)
Lately we’ve been doing mini-sandwiches: whole wheat bread, natural peanut butter, and fruit slices(grapes work best if it won’t be chilled), cut into quarters. If you put PB on both sides of the bread, it helps keep the fruit from slipping out!
LOVE this idea! Great way to sneak in more healthy fruit 🙂
Homemade granola bars!
Adorable! I love dried apples on the go!
An apple or peanuts with chocolate chips.
Love them – so cute! Our favorite on the go snack is always fresh fruit 🙂
homemade chicknuts (dry roasted chickpeas) raw walnuts and dried unsweetened cranberries
In the summer, we LOVE frozen grapes to cool down.
What does your family like?
We usually bring fruit along – oranges, sliced strawberries and bananas are easy favorites. Homemade granola bars are a tasty snack, too!
I always throw an apple in my purse with some trail mix in a tubberware and water in my sigg bottle. I would love to win this, although I’m planning on trying to make my own snack bags one of these days. I do belong to Costco though, gasp! We buy toilet paper (which I imagine you use), onions, potatoes, meat, wine and baby pajamas (we mostly have hand-me downs for everything else).
I don’t really have a problem with Costco…but my little family just doesn’t have a use for it right now. I’m so happy to hear you can find some fresh foods and booze there!!!
Yep! It’s good for some things, and it is so close to the dog park that it’s not an extra trip for us.
Cute! I love raisins, nuts and ghirardelli milk chocolate chips as an on-the-go snack.
I’ve been wanting some of these bags! Our favorite summer on the go snack is grapes!
Trail mix is our favorite – you can get a great mix of healthy fats, proteins, antioxidants, and vitamins from a simple mix of various nuts and dried fruits. We often also add M&Ms to our trail mix for a little something extra!
Apples sprikled weith cinnamon. Yum-o.
I’ve been thikning about getting some of these for a while so this might be the push I needed. Thanks!!!!
PS—I have a costco membership and use it only for photo printing/craft project stuff. I only end up going there maybe 6 times a year. They don’t even carry and of the products I really like.
These little bags really are so cute – and what a nice way to help out the planet. You can buy them on my Amazon store 🙂

I have wanted to try out reuseable bags for a long time, your post made me really want to take that step. We usually always have a container of cereal, cut up fruit or pieces of cheese (which may have to be sacrificed due to warming weather).
Grapes, raisins, crackers!!
homemade trail mix!
How cute! I have been meaning to buy some of these to test out – good to know of some brands that work well! We do a lot of Cheerios, crackers, apples & string cheese for snacks on the go.
I love a pretzel, raisin, cranberry combo for a snack.

The snack bags look great, and I love the ideas for what to put them even more!
I mix roasted almonds and craisins together in a snack trap or Kinderville silicone bowl… but I have really been wanting to get some good reusable snack bags!
I have 2 sets of reusable bags that I bought off Etsy. They are useful for dry snacks, but when it comes to something wet or leaky I’ve yet to find a greater option. I think I will try wrapping my sandwich in parchment paper first.
freeze dried peas and corn! my 1.5 year old really likes them!
Almonds, they’re great to hold you over and they don’t spoil.
My girls love to take Cheerios to the babysitters with them.
