Morning Exercise

As I’ve written about before, I work-out a lot. At least five mornings a week I’m at my fitness studio for an intense 60 minute class with cardio and weight-lifting intervals.  I love the natural high that follows a hard-core work-out!

Chris is borderline obsessed with his Cross-Fit work-outs.  He also goes at least five times a week, and his strong arms and broad chest are proof of his dedication.  He is determined to share his love of health and fitness with the kids, so every morning he rounds them up for a set of push-ups, squats, jumping-jacks and sit-ups.

On their lucky days, Dad joins in on the fun!

Even little Vivian wants in on the action.  She might be little, but she is determined to be mighty!

Some mornings the kids whine as I’m leaving for the gym – they want me to stay home.  I explain to them that I want to stay healthy for them and for me.  Once they hear this, they calm down and return to Dad.  They understand that our bodies need to be cared for and treated well if we want to live a healthy life.

    Does Chris work from home?

Those last few pictures are what it looks like around here when my husband does push-ups with our toddler son at bedtime. 🙂

No, he doesn’t work from home. Fortunately, he has a short commute so he stays home with the kids in the morning while I go to the gym. As soon as I come home, he heads out to work!

    Hi Maureen,
This is an older post but I’m just seeing your site now after going to Red Tricycle. We are expecting our first baby in February and are also gym/Crossfit morning fanatics. I see you are able to go to the gym before your husband goes to work but have you heard of any daycares or sitters, etc. that might be able to watch kids in the morning during a gym run? I worry this might be difficult to find! 🙂

Congrats on the baby! What an exciting time for you!!

I do not know of any sitters that do this, but I’m sure a post on NPN or a search on a sitter website would bring you some luck. Or, look for a gym with good childcare. I’d recommend Dailey Method (in LP and Bucktown) or Shred 415 (in LP and Old Town). Good luck!!
