Introducing Terra Baby

I’ve been doing a bit of mental math lately: how many diapers have I changed during the past 4 1/2 years? At my best guess, it’s fast approaching 13,000.  And 98.5% of them have been cloth.

I’ve always said that with the THOUSANDS of dollars we’ve saved by choosing cloth I will take a fabulous vacation once my last baby is potty trained.  But, that saved money was burning a figurative hole in my pocket, so I put it to use now:

I started my own line of cloth diapers, Terra Baby.

Ever since I started cloth diapering when Evelyn was a newborn, I’ve received a fair amount of push-back and upturned noses from people who just don’t understand why…how…huh?  My goal with Terra Baby is to offer a line of affordable and adorable cloth diapers that aren’t intimidating or scary or overwhelming. Everyone can give cloth diapering a try.

For the better part of a year I searched for materials and factories and website designers.  I tested prototypes on my own children.  I asked friends for help.  I rely heavily on my husband’s business expertise and motivating entrepreneurial spirit.

When the Terra Baby website was launched last August I took a deep breath and dove in.  The Internet is a scary place full of people with noisy opinions and hurtful commentary. These days, it takes a thick skin to put anything out in the universe.  I have to remind myself that my intentions with Terra Baby are pure and honest: I just want more people to feel comfortable giving cloth diapers a fair chance.

I’ll blog about my adventures in entrepreneurship regularly so you can come along for the ride with me.  Feel free to ask questions along the way!

Want to get started with cloth? Check out my Cloth Diapering Manifesto here.  Email me at Maureen@terrababy.com. Ask your local baby store to host a cloth diapering class.  Its never to late to make the switch!

I sure would appreciate some support from my kind and loving Homemade Mothering community. Join Terra Baby on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TerraBabyDiapers) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/myterrababy). And, please stop by my website TerraBaby.com!

Where are the factories that are making the diapers? Best of luck with your new business!

I’m in my fifth month of pregnancy (first child) and my husband researched diapers. He came away totally sold on cloth diapers, but I admit I was a little hesitant. I was on board eco-wise, but was worried about what I was getting myself into and not looking forward to it. My understanding of cloth diapers was based on what my mother used for me in 1977. SO NOT THE SAME. After stumbling upon your blog, then Terra Baby, and finally doing some research of my own, I’m actually excited about cloth diapers! It will be a little while before we are able to make the purchase, but we fully intend to get that great starter pack on Terra Baby. Thanks to your awesome information (love the manifesto!) on this blog and on Terra Baby, I’m not just agreeable to cloth diapers, but I’m actually excited about it! I love the colors, too. Thank you so much for your care and creativity! I actually look forward to getting to use them!
