As I’ve mentioned here before, I am not a particularly crafty person. While I enjoy doing most things on my own, projects with the kids are usually quite simple but satisfying. On grey afternoons we keep busy with tools from our craft tower and whatever can be re-purposed from around the house.
So, when I heard about Green Kid Crafts from my friends at Happy Family Organic Superfoods (I am one of their Happy Bloggers and they share all sorts of good scoop with me) I knew I wanted to check it out. Green Kid Crafts assembles and ships monthly art kits for kids, all with nature as the predominant theme. We love crafts and we love nature, so I was more than happy to try out a month of this really cool service.
When we received our first box Evie knew something special was inside.
And, sure enough, she was right! The Backyard Science themed kit came stocked with a few fun craft projects and easy-to-follow instructions. The kids first chose to decorate a reusable bag for a nature treasure hunt. Together they colored and traced until the bag was ready, and together they set out in our neighborhood to gather items on the included list.
All three kids wanted in on the action, which can sometimes lead to arguments. But, I can honestly say that they worked together on these projects. There was no fighting. A miracle!
The projects in our box kept us busy for a couple afternoons – it was wholesome family fun that I felt good about giving them. An annual subscription to Green Kid Crafts would make for a great birthday or holiday gift from grandparents (this is a not-so-subtle hint to my kids’ own grandparents – ha!).
