Better Than A Carnation

I don’t think I’ve ever had an *amazing* Valentine’s Day. Its always been a Hallmark holiday for me.  When I was in high school, the booster club sponsored a carnation delivery – boys would buy carnations for girls, and the flowers would be delivered during class.  Every year I wished for a carnation. And I never received one.  Sniff, sniff.

Flash forward 16 years, and my unbelievably handsome husband left a bouquet of roses for me.  His kind gesture was a million times better than a silly carnation from a forgettable someone.

You know what else is better than a carnation?  Homemade Valentine cards for the littles.

And, I also think homemade pancakes for a Valentine’s dinner are better than carnations.

But, the part of yesterday that I treasured so much more than any carnation was the time spent with Evelyn, Mack and Vivian. They were so excited about the holiday! For days Evie practiced tracing and cutting hearts out of construction paper, and they all very joyfully wore their Valentine’s outfits from Granmary. Its so sweet to celebrate a holiday full of love with my little lovies.

If I could go back in time I would tell my high school self not to worry about a silly carnation sale.  Life just keeps getting better and better.

Carnations are ugly flowers, anyway.

Love this post. I just posted about a Valentine activity I did with my kids. The holidays takes on a whole new meaning when you have a family.
