I am such a sucker for the Christmas season. I often say that I wish this holiday fell later in winter just so I could have something to look forward to during these dreary and chilly months. The house feels so much warmer with the Christmas decorations up, and the kids love the change in scenery and atmosphere.
Every year since Evie was born I’ve added new Christmas books to our collection. When we brought the Christmas books out from storage a couple weeks ago Evie and Mack could barely contain their excitement. Their current favorites are Merry Christmas, Curious George and an I Spy Santa Book (personally, I love re-reading the short-and-sweet Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris every year). I recently added The Greatest Gift: The Story of the Other Wise Man from Barefoot Books. While the story might be a bit beyond their little grasps, they love the colorful and expressive pictures. Evie is particularly interested in the maps on the front and back, too.
Adding a new holiday book (or two!) every year is a fun tradition I can easily keep. Is there anything better than cuddling up on a blustery night with my two little ones in their pajamas as I read them a special book?? I think not!

That is still my favorite memory from childhood – I think reading with my parents as a kid is the key factor that lead to my lifelong love of reading! 🙂
One of my families favorite Christmas traditions is unwrapping the Christmas books. I wrap them all, new and old, and we have a countdown to Christmas unwrapping as we go. Not only do they enjoy reading the books they love seeing the pile get smaller as we get closer to the big day!
Such a nice tradition! Thank you for sharing it!
