Simple Craft: Homemade Bank

Little Evelyn has been very interested in money lately.  I’m not exactly sure what sparked this interest – perhaps its because her Dad works so hard and she sees me doing so much work from my home office.  I explain to her that we work so we can earn money to provide for her and Mack.  Ever since I said that, she occasionally offers to do chores around the house in exchange for money.

When I was growing up my siblings and I were given a weekly allowance on the condition that all our chores were completed.  When Evie gets a little older I’d like to try this, too, but for now if she’s willing to pick up her toys for five pennies that’s seems like a good deal to me!

Her small collection of change had no home, so yesterday while Mack napped Evie and I turned an empty container into her own bank.  I cut paper to wrap around the container, and she wrote her name on it and added some colorful decoration.  She then glued the paper on.  I cut a hole in the removable top and – voila! – a homemade bank!

Evie is delighted with her new bank! She immediately offered to tidy the play area, and she smiled widely as she dropped in her coins and listened to the cha-ching!
