Helado con Fresas

One of my husband’s favorite treats is ice cream. While I could take it or leave it, he really seems to enjoy it. So, I decided it was time to start making it at home. Ice cream from the grocery store has two problems: 1) its kinda pricey and 2) it is loaded with garbage. Why should I pay too much money for a product that contains icky filler ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, sodium alginate and modified food starch?

I found a cheap ice cream maker at Target for $29. It is small but mighty (even if it kinda looks like a toilet!), and after freezing the bowl overnight I was ready to go. Mixing in 1 1/4 cup whole milk, 3/4 cup whipping cream, 1/2 cup sugar, a splash of vanilla extract and a few strawberries is all the work I had to do. Just 40 minutes later, we were enjoying a creamy, light and refreshing dessert.
