Cleaning To-Do List

Cleaning the house ranks as one of my least favorite things to do. With two little ones its hard to find the time and the energy to keep things tidy. I’d love to have a housekeeper stop by our place once a week, but there isn’t room in our budget for a luxury like that. So, out of complete necessity I devised a system that breaks down my long list of household chores into manageable daily duties. This simple routine helps me handle the workload and it gives me a clear “to-do” list for the week. Every morning I know what has to get done and I can then plan the rest of the day accordingly.

Certain tasks like sweeping the floor, wiping kitchen countertops, and putting Evelyn’s toys away are taken care of every day. And, with a 21 month old and a two-week old I have piles of laundry to sort through on a daily basis, too. But, I find that sticking to this routine actually gives me more time with Evelyn, Mack, and Chris – and time with my family is always my first priority!

Monday
Mop Floors
Empty bathroom/bedroom garbage cans

Tuesday
Dust furniture/wood trim (using a simple homemade dusting spray)
Wash towels and bed linens (using my homemade laundry detergent)

Wednesday
Vacuum second floor

Thursday
Clean all bathrooms
Clean all glass & mirrors

Friday
Big jobs for once a month like cleaning the refrigerator or cleaning the laundry area
