Evie recently started going to school full day a few days a week. She loves the extra time with her wonderful teachers and nice friends.
I am now faced with one more nightly task to complete before bed: making Evie’s lunch for the next day. As a homemade mother, I strive to pack a zero waste lunch for Evie every day. Its much easier than most people might think.
Evie’s sandwich is packed in a reusable snack bag. We have some from Itzy Ritzy and Snack Taxi. The cute patterns and easy-open closures make lunch time fun for Evie. With these easy-to-clean snack bags there is NO need for earth-choking plastic snack bags.
Instead of a disposable brown paper bag Evie brings a personalized lunch box. Its easy to wipe-out and easy to carry.
To further reduce waste, we avoid juice boxes and opt for water in a reusable Klean Kanteen kids water bottle. It doesn’t leak, and it is dishwasher safe. We never leave home without it.
I also pack real fruit in “natural” packaging – bananas or oranges are easy to transport and easy to peel. Empty calorie snacks filled with sugar and wrapped in plastic aren’t necessary to keep her tummy full.
As a final touch, I’ll grab some scrap paper and write a little note to Evie in simple sight words she understands. Just so she knows I love her!
