Testing out the EIO Training Cup + GIVEAWAY

I’m always on the look-out for innovative kids products that are healthy and safe for my little ones.  So, when a high school friend (who is also a fellow eco-mom) sent me info about the EIO Kids Training Cup, I was instantly intrigued.  Because it uses a regular 8 oz glass canning jar it has no BPA, phthalates or PVC.  Oh, and its so cute!

The EIO is a training cup – not a sippy cup.  Therefore, if its tipped over the beverage inside will slowly dribble out.  This cup is thoughtfully designed to help kids learn how to drink from a regular cup with less mess, and so far Mack L-O-V-E-S it.  We went for a nice walk the other night, and he wouldn’t leave the house until his EIO cup was safely tucked in the stroller.  I think he feels like a big kid when drinking from it.

So far, I love it, too.  Unlike regular sippy cups, there aren’t small plastic parts and valves that have to be removed before washing.  And, the easy grip silicone sleeve prevents breaks when Mack inevitably drops it from his high chair.  And, when Mack is big enough to drink without the lid he can still use the glass jar and sleeve as a regular cup.

TIP: this cup makes an excellent stocking stuffer for your favorite little ones. Order one from The Glass Baby Bottle just because the folks who run that site are so nice!

My friends at The Glass Baby Bottle would like to give an EIO Training Cup to one lucky Homemade Mothering reader. To enter, leave a comment here that answers the question:

What is one beverage you won’t let your kids drink?

Giveaway ends on Friday 12/2 at 11:59 PM Central Time.

My answer to the above question? Anything with high fructose corn syrup.

any type of sodas.. i cant believe how many parents let their little kids drink that stuff..

  2. Marilee says:

Those cups look great! I hope my daughter never gets a taste of diet anything. I was hooked on Diet Coke at a young age and I think the sweetener permanently affected the foods I crave.

  3. Charmaine says:

Anything ” DIET”! If it has sweeteners other than REAL sugar or natural fruit juice, it’s a no-no for us too :) that includes HFCS (or whatever name they’re trying to pass it off as these days!)

  4. Asia moore says:

We are strictly water and breast milk still, i refuse to give my daughter soda or juice. I got brought up being able to drink whatever and now as an adult I’m paying for it with dentist visits! :)

  5. Tori Vinson Whiting says:

We don’t drink anything with artificial sweeteners.

  6. Talia B. says:

That would be so awesome. My girl is 18 months and mostly nurses or drinks water, but she loves u sweetened herbal tea. No sodas or diet anything comes into my house or touches her lips! It is so important to me to preserve her palate.

  7. Jessica says:

Thanks for the post….and the giveaway. :)

    Juice.

  8. Estelle says:

Thanks for the post. I don’t let my son drink any juice (unless homemade) or soda.

  9. katie says:

This looks great! The only things I will let my daughter drink right now are water and breast milk. But even when we expand her repertoire, anything with artificial sweeteners will be off limits.

  10. Lindsay Carter says:

Anything with artificial sweeteners, or a lot of sugar. My kids who are 6, 4, and 2 have never had soda. Oh they ask especially at parties where it’s offered, but it’s just not worth it I tell them, have an extra piece of cake instead ;o)

  11. Jenn S. says:

For the older girl – anything diet – no artificial sweeteners, I’m even suspicious of supposedly “natural” sugar substitutes.

For the baby girl – I haven’t even let her try watered down juice yet, it was so hard to break the older girl of her juice habit that I’m staying away as long as possible this time!

  12. Lauren M says:

Pop is a definite no no in our home.

  13. Courtney says:

Coffee! As a preschool teacher i couldnt believe the amount of kids who came in with starbucks in the morning!

  14. Delia says:

I don’t let my girls drink soda.

  15. Grace says:

We do not and our littte Toast on the way will not drink artificial anything.

  16. Meghan says:

Right now my son is still exclusively breast fed, but when the time comes he will definitely not be drinking any soda. We’ll be sticking to water, raw milk, and some occasional juice and smoothies.

  17. Rachel says:

Anything with high fructose corn syrup or caffeine. I do let the older kids drink natural sodas and juice with cabonation.

  18. Cassidy says:

Anything with HFCS and definitely anything with artifical…anything (lol) in it. I avoid caffeine for him as well.

  19. Danielle says:

Anything with artificial sweetners. We usually only let my daughter drink milk or water. Real juice or homemade flavored water are “treats”

I’ve actually been looking into these cups. They look really nice!

  20. Apryl says:

Thanks for the giveaway! I don’t allow the kids to have soda. They pretty much just have milk and water :)

  21. Athalea says:

    I LOVE theglassbabybottle.com! Aren’t they great?!
Anyway, I won’t let our little one have any of the artificial stuff or anything with caffeine.

  22. Audrey says:

kool-aid…too much sugar and artifical stuff…

  23. judy says:

I let him have nothing “diet”..

  24. Vashti McMurray says:

No sods pop for my kids-ever!

  25. Liz says:

Nothing with added sugar/high fructose corn syrup — just milk, water, and “juice” (ie., water with a splash of apple juice).

  26. tuyet says:

My almost 10 month old only drink expressed breastmilk and water – and the latter only if we are out and/or my milk supply in fridge is low. I will not be allowing any juices and/or sodas… too much artificial sweeteners. I want her to enjoy the food/nutrients a nd not have to rely on fructose

  27. Adele says:

    No sodas around here!

  28. Right now, my little guy (4 1/2 months) doesn’t drink anything but breast milk. Once he’s a bit older, we will definitely avoid HFCS and limit juice.

  29. The Knapps says:

My little guy will not be drinking any soda when he’s old enough to drink more than breastmilk

  30. Nell says:

I try to not buy any high fructose corn syrup & also limit his soda & juice… but he loves to take a sip of whatever we are drinking so sometimes it’s hard to not EVER give him any one thing!

  31. jacqueline says:

Our soon to be 15 month old is only on milk, water, and breastmilk still. Definetly stay away from anything diet or carbonated. Once we introduce her to juice (which won’t be for a long while), it would be limited and watered down (that’s how Papa and I like to drink it anyway..hehe).

  32. Caroline says:

No sodas in this house. Water is the drink of choice here + breastmilk for the baby.

  33. nicole mahjoory says:

My daughter is almost 15 months. I will not give her soda or juices high in sugar. She primarily drinks milk and water and occasionally low-sugar organic juice.

  34. Sara Stewart says:

Anything artificial or that has high fructose corn syrup. We are also Dairy Free at our house.

  35. Caitie says:

Cheap whiskey… Only Jack Daniels for my boy.

  36. Jamie G says:

my son only drink coconut milk, water, and sometimes juice (without any junk in it..and watered down).

  37. zenilda thompson says:

no soda, or any juice that isn’t watered down and it must be organic. I love the whiskey comment! lol

  38. Abbigail says:

What a cool concept! It will make the transition from sippy to real drinking cup so much easier :) Thanks for sharing!

  39. Abbigail says:

Oops, Facebook only said to leave a comment, but now that I have read in more detail :) . . . Evening drinks soy milk, water and juice watered down!

  40. Jessica says:

I don’t want my son to drink anything that has more chemicals in it than real food. Since when does your body need something made in a laboratory?

  41. Katrina says:

no soda for my little ones!

  42. Sunny S. says:

I don’t let my children drink soda or things with high fructose corn syrup.

  43. Amber K says:

We def don’t give our little man soda-nothing good in it at all!

  44. alyse says:

I would have to agree with you, anything with high fructose corn syrup or any artificial sweeteners. My twins are 12 months and we still dont even drink juice. Water & Milk all the way!

  45. Michelle Wiederman says:

    Anything drink that isn’t 100% natural isn’t a drink for us. :)
Pretty much if it has more than one or two ingredients, it’s probably a no go. I can’t wait until my little guy is ready to try one of these EIO training cups!

  46. I won’t give my son soda. I’m just hoping my parents don’t try to sneak some to him when I’m not looking.

  47. Greta says:

Anything with artificial sweeteners, especially sodas!! Yuk!

  48. danielle says:

    Sunny Delight – disgusting.

  49. Lauren J says:

I don’t allow my children to drink pop.

  50. Danette says:

    No soda!

  51. melissa daudelin says:

Kool-aid! Never kept in our house!

  52. Grace D says:

We do breastmilk, water, goats milk and juice from the juicer. Certainly no soda or artificial sugars. Thank for the give away!

  53. Jody Hardwick says:

No pop, no high fructose drinks, but occasionally organic juices as a sweet treat.

  54. Heidi Seligman says:

I despise Soda and Sweetened Tea for my kiddies, and recently I do not approve of juice..have to phase that out! Organic milk (stonyfield) filtered water with ice, and Boobie milk!

  55. Laura B. says:

I plan to ban HFCS and artificial sugar.

  56. Ginger says:

These look awesome!! Much better then the “sippy cups” that I have used for my children. As far as diet stuff, not here I think it is so sad how people think they are drinking something that is better for them, when in reality it is worse:(

  57. Lauren N says:

I wont let him drink anything with unnatural sugars

  58. mayela says:

this cups look amazing!!!!!! My baby girl only drinks water, breast Milk and Whole Milk :) NO SODA ALLOW IN MY HOUSE!!!!!!
